Tovarish Sukhov

Sukhov is a character from the movie: the white sun of the desert (USSR 1970). He is a class conscious soldier who fought in the civil war and remained involved in the revolutionary fights of  Central Asia. In the context of this blog, he represents a complex dynamic of instincts and necessities. He longs for home but he cannot abandon the “comrades of the brotherly east”, and at the same time he slightly despises them. An unwilling liberator with little understanding of and scarce sympathy for the people he is freeing, and the bearer of precious ideals of fraternity.
